Traffic on Broadway has been reduced to one lane through Friday going north from Covell to Waterloo Road, said Ashleigh Clark, city public information officer.
Scheduling the infrastructure crews to improving the road with milling and overlay should end this week, weather permitting. Flagmen will directing traffic until the project is completed.
“This work is part of the Fiscal Year 2011-12 Street Overlay Project that was awarded to Atlas Paving Company with the total cost of $1.584 million,” Clark said.
The city spends $2 million each year for overlay street projects, said Harry Fenton, project engineer. An overlay should endure seven to 10 years.
“We’re doing base repair and everything else to make sure it will last as long as it can,” Fenton said.
Six-thousand vehicles a day travel on Broadway from Covell to Waterloo, Fenton said.
