VIDEO & SLIDESHOW: Edmond celebrates America

EDMOND — People packed the streets of downtown Edmond despite Fourth of July temperatures nearing 100 degrees Wednesday for the 40th LibertyFest Parade.

The moving variety show gave a little something for everyone with clowns zipping down Broadway on tiny cars, Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputies zooming in circles on their motorcycles and the Oklahoma City Shriners showing off their wheelie skills on their three-wheeled motorcycles.

Area Boy Scouts towed the traditional 50- by 76-foot American flag while some 150 Girl Scouts of America trotted out in their custom-built costumes in celebration of the club’s 100th anniversary.

Military veterans gained standing ovations for their services from the 50,000 people watching the 1.5 mile parade route.

Newly crowned Miss LibertyFest 2012 Alex Eppler waived graciously to parade watchers, all the while keeping a wide grin in the hot sun.

Marching bands from Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Edmond Santa Fe high schools kept the crowd in tune with their brass and drums.

And though the heat might have made sitting uncomfortable for some, they still managed to paste on a smile and clap, cheer and celebrate Independence Day in Edmond.
