EDMOND — Acclaimed as one of the world’s greatest living sculptors, Sir David Wynne unveils a commissioned iconic monumental-size sculpture, Swans in Flight, Friday afternoon in front of Armstrong Auditorium. Wynne, 84, who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth, said it took 2-3 weeks to create each swan, the heaviest of which weighs about 1,600 pounds. The 15-feet. bronze masterpiece sits in a 40,000 gallon reflecting pool with six cascading water jets. The sculpture was commissioned by Herbert Armstrong, founder of its home, the Herbert W. Armstrong College. Wynne said he was, “glad to see them again.” See related story on page A12.
