EDMOND — DAR promotes Constitution Week awareness

The Samuel King Chapter, NSDAR, will hold its annual membership registration and guest tea at the home of Rosalind Triplett at 2 p.m. Sept. 12. Members, their guests and those interested in becoming members are invited to attend. State Regent Diane Hamill will bring greetings and provide information on the state project to sponsor the Hearts and Hands Healthcare Scholarship.

The Daughters of the American Revolution is a lineage, non-political, women’s service organization with basic tenets of God, home and country. Through its activities it stresses the importance of education, patriotism and historic preservation. The month of September will find DAR celebrating Constitution Week.

Any woman over the age of 18 who can prove direct lineage to a Revolutionary patriot is eligible for membership. For more information on the application process or the registration tea, please call Regent Teresa Cales at 330-0803.



EARC calling for donations

EARC will hold a week-long donation drive from Aug. 30 through Sept. 4. Donations of good used clothing, shoes, purses, belts, jewelry, linens, small appliances, books and toys will be accepted at any Edmond First Fidelity Bank branch office.

EARC, an Edmond-based nonprofit organization, is dedicated to assisting adults with developmental disabilities to lead more independent lives by providing jobs, transportation, housing, and education. The organization currently operates two thrift stores in Edmond and one in Guthrie, and donations are significantly down this year. EARC is calling on donations to re-stock their closets to meet the needs of the community.

Donations can be dropped off at any Edmond First Fidelity Bank branch office at 2600 S. Broadway, 725 W. Covell, or 2825 N.W. 164th. Donations will also be accepted at the EARC Thrift Stores, 100 E. Third St., or in Guthrie at 1408 E. Oklahoma Ave.

    My Birth Center at OU Medical Center Edmond delivered its 100th baby at 7:42 a.m. Friday, 44 years after the hospital’s first 100th baby was born in 1968. My Birth Center opened in September, becoming the first birth place available in Edmond since 2005.
