Special to The Sun
History may not be made from the barstool of a favorite pub, but it is surely discussed there — especially if that pub is the oldest continually operating one in London, England.
Find out more about this historic pub at the next meeting of the History Book Club at the Edmond Library, 10 S. Boulevard, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The book under discussion will be “Shakespeare’s Pub: A Barstool History of London as Seen Through the Windows of Its Oldest Pub — The George Inn” by Pete Brown. Presentation and discussion will be led by Jessica Sheetz-Nguyen, UCO professor of history.
“Our History Book Club meets every other month,” said Edmond Library Manager of Operations Melody Kellogg, “and it’s been one of our proudest success stories. The discussion at each meeting is led by a history professor from the University of Central Oklahoma. The sessions are for adults and it’s all free.”
The History Book Club is co-sponsored by the University of Central Oklahoma. Call the library at 341-9282 for more information. Visit the MLS website, www.metrolibrary.org to learn more.
