Senator visits Edmond Rotary

EDMOND — Edmond Rotary Club will feature Sen. Tom Coburn Wednesday at its regular weekly meeting.

Coburn is completing six years in the Senate. Previously, he served six years as a U.S. representative for the 2nd congressional district, where his home of Muskogee is located. He was the first Republican in that seat to hold consecutive terms.

A family physician specializing in obstetrics and allergy, he returns home each weekend and has pledged to serve no more than two terms in the Senate, this being his last if he is successful in this fall’s campaign.

Coburn faces Democrat Jim Rogers of Midwest City and Independents Stephen P. Wallace and Ronald F. Dwyer, both of Tulsa, on the Nov. 2 general election ballot.

Coburn was a member of the Committee on Commerce, where he sat on the subcommittees on Health & Environment, as vice chairman; Energy & Power; and Oversight and Investigations. After completion of his third congressional term, Coburn was chosen to be co-chair of the President's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS.

The service organization meets at noon every Wednesday at Henderson Hills Baptist Church, at 15th and the east I-35 Service Road.

The Edmond Rotary Club welcomes the public to attend its weekly meetings. Lunch is available for $11.50. Reservations are required for this meeting, and may be made by contacting club secretary Allison Calhoun at acalh@cox.net.
