GUTHRIE —
Friends of Mercy Hospital Logan County joined staff for a cross and chapel blessing Monday afternoon.
The hospital’s 9-foot steel cross went missing this summer while being repaired at a sign shop in Oklahoma City. The cross was removed from the closed Logan County Memorial Hospital and taken to a sign shop for repair. Days later, it went missing.
The cross was found when a Norman woman saw a photo of the missing cross on the news, and recognized it from a photo one of her friends posted on Facebook.
The cross had been taken from the sign shop and hauled to a scrap metal yard, where the metal yard owner — a Catholic — refused to melt it down.
It was returned to the hospital the next day, and was taken to a sign shop to continue repairs. With new support beams and vibrant LED lights, the made-over cross was installed at Mercy Hospital Logan County Oct. 10.
On Monday, Mercy co-workers and community friends gathered to celebrate its return to Logan County.
