EDMOND —
Voter turnout for the Edmond City Council Ward 1 and Ward 2 races was 12 percent, according to the Oklahoma County Election Board. There were 3,802 votes cast in the Ward 1 race and 3,830 people voted in the Ward 2 race.
Fewer votes were cast in the school board race with 1,847 votes cast, or 7 percent voter turnout. Lee Ann Kuhlman slipped past her opponent Ann Stephenson Cameron by 51 votes.
Kuhlman received 949 votes (51.38 percent) of the 1,847 votes cast to Cameron’s 898 votes (48.62 percent), according to the Oklahoma County Election Board.
Cameron led in five of the 12 precincts as well as mail-in absentee ballots.
In Ward 1, Victoria Caldwell took 2,230 votes or 58.65 percent to beat her opponent John Combs, who picked up 1,572 votes or 41.35 percent with all 31 precincts reporting. Caldwell was victorious in all but four Edmond precincts where Combs led collectively by 25 votes.
“I’ve served on Capital Projects with Victoria for several years and I’ve been very impressed with her steady hand,” said Jay Buxton, Edmond attorney. “She’s a solid citizen and I think she’ll make a good Council person. I’m glad that John Combs ran. I think we’re better off as a city when capable people offer themselves for public service.”
Incumbent Ward 2 City Councilwoman Elizabeth Waner swept her ward election with 2,774 votes or 72.43 percent to 1,056 total votes or 27.57 percent for political newcomer Anne DeClouette. Waner also took the majority of votes in the 31 precincts.
“She’s worthy,” Edmond resident Ronnie Williams said. Waner is diligent about doing her homework, he added.
Caldwell and Waner will be sworn into office on May 2, said Steve Murdock, city attorney. A time for the swearing-in ceremony has not been decided, he said.
Kuhlman will be sworn into office at 8 p.m. Monday at the Edmond Public Schools Administration Building, 101 W. Danforth.
