Turkey Trot, community dinner highlight Thanksgiving in Edmond

EDMOND — For those looking for some community spirit and togetherness on Thanksgiving morning, the annual Edmond Turkey Trot will provide a 5K Run or a 1-Mile Family Walk starting at Main and Boulevard, just west of the Downtown Community Center, 28 E. Main St. The event begins at 8 a.m.

All proceeds from the race and accompanying walk will benefit Turning Point Ministries, which is a nonprofit organization assisting with housing needs in Edmond. To learn more, go online to www.EdmondTurkeyTrot.com.

Once the running and walking are finished, residents are invited to the annual Edmond Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the Nigh University Center on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma.

The dinner will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday. It’ a free eight-course meal complete with turkeys, hams, all the trimmings and desserts. The event is sponsored by local churches who take turns acting as the host church each year. The event is run by 600-800 volunteers and about 3,000 people are expected to attend.
