EDMOND — Local school board election filing ended at 5 p.m. Wednesday with candidates filing for all of the open seats in Edmond, Deer Creek and Guthrie.

Filing uncontested for the Edmond School District Office 3 is incumbent Jamie Underwood.

“I am pleased to be able to continue to serve the Edmond School District,” said Underwood, who currently serves as board president. “We have a lot of important issues we are facing now and will be facing in the near future, and I look forward to working together with other board members and the administrative team to ensure that an education in Edmond remains of the highest quality.”

In the Deer Creek School District, filing for Office 3 are Keri Shipley, Jerrod Roberts and Timothy A. Laubach.

Office 3 is held by David Miller.

“I am not running for re-election,” Miller said. “When I ran originally I said it would be for one term. I served five years and in that time a lot of things I wanted to see happen have taken place or are in the planning stages.”

In Guthrie Jody C. Walker and Terry Pennington are running for Office 2, and Gail Davis is the only candidate for Office 6.

In Guthrie there are seven seats with each candidate serving a 4-year rotating term.

Doug Sanderson, secretary of the Oklahoma County Election Board, said the annual school election date is Feb. 12 with regular polling from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“More than 50 percent of votes will decide the winner,” Sanderson said. “A simple majority is necessary to win an annual school election. If no one receives a simple majority the candidates will go to the annual school run-off election April 3.”
