WASHINGTON, D.C. —
Congressman James Lankford, R-Edmond, announced his selection as the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee Chairman on Energy Policy, Health Care, and Entitlements for the 113th Congress.
“I am honored Chairman Issa selected me as chair of this important subcommittee,” Lankford said. “I am committed to reducing the excessive federal regulations strangling our energy industry and the many businesses that depend on them.”
Oklahoma is home to oil and gas, wind and coal industries, all of which play a critical role in helping our nation reach energy independence, Lankford said. The state is the sixth-largest producer of oil in the country and fourth-largest producer of natural gas, he said. Oklahoma is also on the cutting edge of health care advances.
“Additionally, our entitlement programs need our immediate attention to ensure they maintain proper benefit discernment and reduce administrative costs and bureaucracy wherever possible to protect our seniors and those in need,” Lankford said.
Inefficiency, fraud, waste and mismanagement in the federal government impact every American taxpayer, he said.
Lankford has been an outstanding leader on the Oversight Committee, said House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif. He examined grant reform and unfunded mandates.
Lankford was also elected by the House Republican Conference as the Republican Policy Committee Chair for the 113th Congress. House Rules limit the number of committees on which the Policy Chair can serve to one; however, Lankford received a waiver to continue to serve on the House Budget Committee in the 113th Congress as well as House Oversight.
