Five bones discovered by an Edmond resident in her backyard are being examined by the medical examiner’s office.
On Nov. 20, Edmond Police Officer Nathan Fountain spoke with a resident at 43 E. 21st St. in reference to found bones, according to an incident report filed by Fountain. The home south of 15th Street between Broadway and Boulevard was built in 1961 and has had two owners, according to the Oklahoma County Assessor’s Office.
The reporting party said she was tearing down an old shed on Nov. 17 when she discovered five bones lying underneath the shed, the report stated. She took them to an unidentified veterinarian who did not know the source.
Fountain took the bones, filed his report and sent the bones to the medical examiner’s office.
Wednesday afternoon, ME’s office spokeswoman Amy Elliott said the agency’s chief investigator believes the bones are from an animal. Confirmation should come soon from an anthropologist, Elliott said. No other descriptive information was available.
Elliott said the agency often receives bones and the like which usually turn out to be from animals. She recalled two specific examples — items from a bear and an ostrich.

Clean-up continues for Edmond tornado victims
Mid-June is the approximate time that work is expected to be completed in Edmond for replacing nine transmission structures lost in Sunday’s tornado, said Brian Alford, OG&E spokesperson. Repairs could take longer, depending on weather conditions, he added.
Work in Edmond focuses on the Forest Oaks and Thornbrooke additions, both along Bryant Avenue. Twelve homes were damaged in the city by the storm that also dropped hail on northwest Edmond. Major damage impacted three of the homes while the other nine homes had minor damage, said Matt Stillwell, director of the city’s emergency communications and management.
Contract crews from out-of-state are helping OG&E in their restoration effort throughout central and southern Oklahoma, Alford said. -

Memorial service for tornado victims set
Gov. Mary Fallin announced that a memorial and prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Moore. The service will honor and remember the victims of the May 20 tornado that killed 24 people in Moore and the May 19 tornado that killed two in the Shawnee and Carney area. It is open to the public.
