EDMOND —
Edmond detectives investigating the recent discovery of a body along Interstate 35 are seeking the public’s help in identifying the victim.
Police spokeswoman Jenny Monroe said at 4:39 a.m. Saturday the body of an Hispanic male was found by a passer-by along the shoulder of the northbound lanes of Interstate I-35 between Danforth and Covell.
According to city incident logs the body was found on the shoulder at mile marker 143. Four witnesses were interviewed. In a previous report, Monroe said the nature of the wounds indicates homicide, but she could not go into further detail.
Thursday, state medical examiner’s office spokeswoman Amy Elliott said the agency has ruled the death was a homicide. Elliott said she could not release any information about the nature of the wounds or cause of death.
In another development, the Edmond Police Department informed media outlets it is seeking the public’s help for information leading to the identity of the victim.
During the investigation detectives learned the victim was possibly working for a roofing company in the Oklahoma City area, Monroe said. Monroe said the victim had a very unique upper dental plate in his mouth. He weighed about 135 pounds and was 5-feet, 3 inches tall, she said.
“If you recognize this individual or can provide any assistance with this investigation, please contact the Edmond Police Department,” Monroe said.
Police say it is possible the man may have used one of the following names:
• Leopoldo Mejia;
• Jose Mejia-Serrano, 35; or
• Jose Ramirez, 50.
The EPD released an image of the man and a second image, a close-up of his teeth showing a distinctive gold star.
Monroe urged anyone driving in the area of I-35 between the Danforth and Covell exits in Edmond, between the times of 1-4:30 a.m. Saturday and remembers seeing any vehicles or persons on the side of the road is asked to call EPD Crime Stoppers at 359-4466 or to submit information via the Text-a-Tip line at 625-TEXT (8398). Information could lead to a reward, she said.

The Edmond Sun is serving as a drop-off location for the downtown Edmond area for the American Red Cross. Supplies only may be dropped off at 123 S. Broadway and residents may use the back door to enter the building. Parking is available behind the building at the Festival Market Place. Donations may be taken to Café Evoke, 103 S. Broadway, from 5-10 p.m. -
ME’s office begins identifying Moore, OKC victims
The Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office today began releasing names of those who perished in Monday’s 17-mile long EF-5 tornado in Moore and Oklahoma City.
As of this morning the official death toll remains at 24. Of those dead are 10 children. -
