OKLA. CITY —
The Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs will launch its Policy to Share conference on Friday. The conference will educate and equip Oklahoma women with the tools and materials to share Oklahoma policy initiatives.
The Policy to Share Conference will be at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club with nationally renowned speakers, Star Parker and Kate Obenshain. Both of these women have dedicated their careers to free-market ideas and have spent much time speaking to women on college campuses throughout the United States.
“We are honored to have such dynamic speakers bring their expertise on women’s issues to Oklahoma,” said Karma Robinson, vice president for development at OCPA. “Both Star Parker and Kate Obenshain bring a fresh approach to female-focused policy. I look forward to their insight and know the women of the Sooner State will too.”
Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal and Education, a nonprofit think tank that promotes market-based public policy to fight poverty. Before her involvement in social activism, Parker had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency. Now, she is bringing new energy to policy discussions on how to transition America’s poor from government dependency.
Kate Obenshain serves as the vice president of Young America’s Foundation, the nation’s premier campus conservative organization and owner of Ronald Reagan’s Rancho del Cielo in Santa Barbara. Obenshain is also the co-founder of James 1:27 Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing assistance to widows and orphans in times of crisis. Obenshain served as the chairman of the Virginia GOP from 2003-06 where she garnered national attention when she led the charge against tax increases and the role of government at the state and national levels.
In addition to these two speakers, the conference will include panel discussions focusing on policy issues affecting women and families. The conference will begin with registration and continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

3 miles of Broadway restoration nears completion
Work to restore 3 miles of Broadway from Waterloo to Simpson was near completion Friday, said Mark Sharpton, District 1 county commissioner. Atlas Paving Company began the process of resurfacing the road this week.
“Another improvement on the roadway will be the application of new safety striping,” Sharpton said.
A recent bid letting by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation resulted in Action Supply being the lowest bidder at $27,752.30. The bid will be awarded June 3, Sharpton said. - More Local News Headlines
