OKLAHOMA CITY— Oklahoma Christian University announced today that it will delay the launch of its intercollegiate volleyball program.
“In this economic climate, it is necessary to concentrate our resources on our current programs,” athletic director Curtis Janz said. “We don’t have a specific timetable, but we want to start the volleyball program at a time and in a way that helps us be immediately competitive.”
Janz said the added time will allow more funds to be raised for the facility enhancements needed to accommodate the volleyball program along with OC’s basketball and intramural programs.
Oklahoma Christian has a strong volleyball history. The school fielded a team from 1976 to 1983, an eight-year run highlighted by multiple playoff appearances. The 1978 postseason saw the Lady Eagles finish second in the Oklahoma Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women state tournament and advance to the regional tournament under head coach Laura Beth Jobe.
