OC softball wins two to close regular season

OKLA. CITY —  The Oklahoma Christian softball team captured two victories in their double header against the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma on Saturday winning game one 3-0 and taking the second 3-2.

During the first game, a defensive stalemate took place for the first five innings, as neither squad was able to send a runner home.

After holding the Lady Drovers in the top of the sixth, the Lady Eagles tallied three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-0 lead. Deidre Chatigny was the first to reach home doing so on a bunt from Taylor Renshaw. On the next at bat, Jade Tallbull hit a single to send home Kayla Jennings. Directly following, Michelle Miller hit a single as well to drive in Renshaw to put the Lady Eagles up by three.

OC held the Lady Drovers again in the top of the seventh to take the victory at 3-0.

At the plate, Jennings led the Lady Eagles going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Leigh Leonard tallied her 16th win of the season in the circle pitching the complete game and tallying six strikeouts.

The Lady Drovers were the first on the board in game two with a single run in the first to take a 1-0 lead over the Eagles going into the second.

In the bottom of the second, the Lady Eagles responded with two runs to take the one-run advantage. With Lauren Walk and Leonard on base, Ashley Paxton hit into a fielder’s choice to reach first, however, with an error on the play, Walk and Leonard both made it home to put the Lady Eagles ahead by one.

Two innings later during the top of the fourth, USAO tied things up with another single run inning to leave the score at 2-2 going into the fifth.

The Lady Eagles captured the win in the seventh with a final run from Leonard on a single to right field from Chatigny to end the game at 3-2.

Jennings, Walk, and Leonard each went 2-for-3 at the plate while Leonard rounded the bases twice and Walk did so once. Paxton claimed the victory from the circle with five strikeouts pitching through all seven innings.

The wins improve the Lady Eagles’ season record to 37-12 with an 18-8 record in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Completing regular season play, the OC softball team will turn their sights to the conference tournament scheduled for May 6-7.
