Native American Pre-Law Day to be held in Tulsa

Oklahoma City University School of Law, the University of Tulsa College of Law and the University of Oklahoma College of Law, along with the Oklahoma Indian Bar Association, will host a Native American Pre-Law Day and Justice Powwow from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 24 at the University of Tulsa.
Sessions will include information about the admissions process and the legal profession. OCU School of Law Dean Lawrence K. Hellman, along with Robert Butkin, dean of the University of Tulsa College of Law, and Arvo Mikkanen, president of the Oklahoma Indian Bar Association, will provide welcoming remarks. The sessions occur from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in John Rogers Hall at the University of Tulsa.
Kelly Gaines Stoner, director of the Native American Legal Resource Center at OCU School of Law, and Casey Ross-Petherick, assistant director of the Center and OCU School of Law minority admissions liaison, will participate in panel discussions on American Indian law programs. Ross-Petherick and Tamara Martinez-Anderson, OCU School of Law assistant dean of admissions, also will speak on a panel titled “Where Do I Sign Up?”
The day ends with a Native Justice Powwow that follows the traditional format of gourd dancing in the afternoon and war dancing in the evening. The Powwow is free and open to the public and is from 3 to 10 p.m. in the Mabee Gym at the University of Tulsa.
