Funeral services for Harold “Drew” Owen Sr. 81, of Edmond are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Luther Church of Christ. Interment will be at Wetumka Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home.
Owen was born Oct, 7, 1926, in Wetumka. He died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, in Edmond.
Owen graduated from Crooked Oak High School in Oklahoma City. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He attended Central State College in Edmond and later played football for the Philadelphia Athletic Association, which subsequently became the Philadelphia Eagles.
During the Korean War he served as Captain of the Army Rangers, 10th Ranger Company attached to the 45th Infantry Division. He was a Master Paratrooper and awarded the Combat Infantry Badge with the Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star with a V for Valor for his service during the Korean War.
He completed his MBA at Central State University and worked more than 50 years in the insurance industry.
Survivors include his wife, B.J. Owen; his two sons, Harold Drew “Bud” Owen Jr. and William Michael “Mike” Owen, both of Edmond; his daughter, Teresa Jean McDaniels of Edmond; and his two sisters, Margaret Paas-Orr of Aspen, Colo.; and Sandy Brady of Omaha, Neb.
