Juanita I. Quillin

EDMOND —     Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister in Christ, Juanita I. Quillin, 85, of Edmond, Okla., passed away peacefully December 13, 2013 after a brief stay in palliative care.  She was born in Zincville, Okla. to Elmer and Clarice Gambrel, and grew up in Altus, Ark., where she met Robert (Bo) Quillin, her husband of 67 years.  They were married on February 5, 1946 while Bo was home on leave from the Navy, and started their life together in Tulsa, Okla.

Juanita worked as a secretary for American Airlines, and faithfully supported Bo as he earned his degree in Accounting under the GI Bill.  After her children graduated from college, she also served as the church secretary at the Springdale Church of Christ in Tulsa.  In 1997, they moved to Edmond, where they lived happily surrounded by their church family and were always involved in the activities of their grandsons, until the time of her death.

We remember Juanita fondly for her love and compassion for those around her, her rich sense of humor, and her determination to accomplish anything she set out to do.  Fittingly, one of her most common expressions was, “I can do that,” and only very rarely was that shown to be untrue.  She was a gifted seamstress, gardener, and cook, and her handiwork is all around us.  She loved sharing her faith and teaching the Gospel, and was a devoted member of the Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond.  Juanita lovingly and unconditionally embraced the spouses of her children and grandsons, and was richly involved in the activities of her six grandsons throughout their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Robert Gambrel, Orville Gambrel, Theron Gambrel, and Evelyn Gray; and an infant daughter who died shortly after birth.

She is survived by her husband Robert; her children Mike Quillin (Jill) of Walnut Creek, Calif. and Denise Easter (Norm) of Edmond; her grandsons David Easter (Katie) of Memphis, Tenn., Brady Easter (Shanna) of Edmond, Justin Easter (Katie) of Eureka Springs, Ark., James Easter (Mallory) of Searcy, Ark., Nate Quillin of Portland, Ore., and Max Quillin of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and her beloved great-grandson Julius Mars Easter of Eureka Springs, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Hope Harbor Children’s Home in Claremore, Okla.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 17th at Memorial Road Church of Christ.  A private interment will be held at Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond.
