EDMOND —     Calvin E. Simmons, 58, passed away September 7, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born February 19, 1954, in Tulsa, Okla. to Calvin E. and Edna Mae Stratton Simmons.

    His passions growing up were family, baseball and music, all of which continued to hold cherished spots throughout his life. After graduating from Tulsa Central High School, he went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Oral Roberts University. He was a minister of worship throughout his life serving on staff at numerous Southern Baptist churches in both the Tulsa and OKC Metro areas as well serving as a consultant for the State of Oklahoma BGCO. His favorite pastimes were being “Cool Papa” to his granddaughter Landry, watching sports with his family and friends, getting together with his “group” to hang out and eat, and volunteering with the Ministries of Jesus and Henderson Hills Fine Arts Academy.

    Calvin is survived by his wife, Nancy; son Brandon, daughter-in-law Rebecca, and granddaughter Landry; his mother Edna Mae Simmons; and sister Jami Simmons. In addition, Calvin is also survived by his nieces Melissa Tockey, Carley Morey, Erin Duffe, Kris Duffe, and nephew Ian Duffe as well as sister-in-law Debra Duffe and her husband Bruce.

    Calvin was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Sammy Simmons.

    The family invites friends to a come-and-go reception 6-8 p.m., Monday, September 10, 2012 at Crawford Family Funeral Service, 610 NW 178th Street, Edmond.

    Services celebrating Calvin’s life will be 3 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond.
