Marilyn Kawakami

EDMOND — Marilyn Sue Guthrie Manger Kawakami, 65, of Edmond, Okla., passed away in her home Monday morning June 3, 2013. She was born October 21, 1947, in Pryor, Okla., and attended Chester A. Arthur Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High, U.S. Grant High School and she had humble beginnings and received commodities throughout her childhood.

She received an academic scholarship and graduated from Oklahoma City University.

Once diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Cancer, a form of Ovarian Cancer, she never gave up. She never complained and maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook even through several surgeries, countless chemotherapy treatments, hospitalizations, and pain.

Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and considered the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed traveling with husband Tim, having family dinners, and spending quality time with her grandchildren.

Marilyn enjoyed working at H&R Block every tax season as an EA and Master Tax Advisor. She had many repeat clients that she looked forward to seeing every year, and enjoyed catching up on what happened new and great in their lives since the last time they saw each other.

Marilyn had a wonderful sense of humor, an infectious positive spirit, and an honest heart. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

She is survived by her husband Tim Kawakami; daughter Emily Whitaker, son-in-law Ken Whitaker, grandchildren Dalton and Reid Whitaker, son Jay Manger, daughter Alison Smith and son-in-law Brian Smith, sister Cheryl McDaniel and brother-in-law Wayne McDaniel, brother Robert Guthrie and sister-in-law Elaine Guthrie.

A memorial service for Marilyn will 10 a.m. Monday, June 10 at First Unitarian Church, 600 NW 13th Street, Oklahoma City, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charles and Peggy Stephenson Cancer Center at OU, Infusion Center.
