Barbara Ann Lappin

EDMOND —     Barbara Ann Lappin, 75, of Fort Collins, Colo., peacefully passed away May 28, 2013.  She was born in Tonganoxie, Kan. to Bill and Hazel McGee. She grew up in Tonganoxie, and married Rex Lappin.

Barbara earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Kansas.  While Barbara and Rex both were faithful KU alumni, Barbara also developed a strong allegiance to the Oklahoma State University Cowboys during the years that their children, daughter Renee and son Michael, attended college in Stillwater.  That allegiance lived on and it was great fun to watch Barbara (OSU) and Rex (KU) have their friendly rivalries.

Renee gave Barbara and Rex two wonderful grandkids, Michael Jay and Joseph Phillip and the family is all thankful that Barbara and Rex also got to spend time with their great grandchild, Mickey.

Barbara and Rex raised Renee and Michael in Oklahoma City and Edmond.  During the Oklahoma days, they were known as a fun couple and hosted parties that were legendary among their families and friends.  Barbara was active as a Girl Scout leader in Oklahoma and influenced many young ladies.

After Rex’s retirement, Michael talked Barbara and Rex into moving to Fort Collins.  While there, Barbara returned to her true love of teaching and worked with the Base Camp group.  She worked primarily with very young children and specialized in working with those that had special needs.

Barbara developed a series of physical problems in her later years but she was always amazingly strong and positive, and was an inspiration to those around her.  Barbara and Rex were pet lovers and had a many special dogs over the years including Sundance 1, Sundance 2, Casey, and Cassidy.

A memorial service for Barbara was 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013 at Guthrie Christian Church, Guthrie, Okla.

The family requests that donations in memory of Barbara Lappin be made to help the recent tornado victims, both human and animal. Please consider donating to The Red Cross or the Animal Rescue Center, 7949 S I-35 Service Road, Oklahoma City, OK 73149.

Friends may send condolences to the family at bohlenderfuneralchapel.com.
