William A. Leonard

EDMOND —     William A. (Bill) Leonard was born October 27, 1918 to William M and Lilly Leonard in Britton, Okla. He departed this life on June 10, 2013.

His parents made the Land Run and established a farm east of Britton.

    Bill married Lucille Thomas on May 14, 1937 and was married 54 years until her death in 1991.  He joined Britton Baptist Church in 1952 and served as a deacon for more than 50 years.

    Bill worked at Mid Continent News for 38 years in many different director positions.  He served in the Army during WWII and was stationed in the Philippines.

    Bill’s passions were hunting, fishing and bowling.  He hunted and fished many places in the U.S. as well as Canada and Mexico, making annual trips to Arkansas, S. Dakota and Canada. Bill was known for telling many stories, some of which were true. He was known for his great sense of humor.

    Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and a son-in-law.

    He is survived by his daughter Judi Doerr, son and daughter-in-law Kenny and Karen Leonard, all of Edmond; five grandchildren:  Tiffany and Godfrey Guerzon of Seattle, Wash., Laura and Duncan Massingham of Austin, Texas, Blake and Charla Doerr of Tulsa, Okla., Dustin Leonard of Oklahoma City, and Heather and Joey Rushing of Yukon, Okla.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

    The family thanks Sterling House and Good Shepherd Hospice for Bill’s wonderful care.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday June 13, 2013 at Matthews Funeral Home Chapel with Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
