EDMOND —
Betty Jean Christian, 84, of Edmond, Okla., was born October 6, 1927, in Kiefer, Okla., and passed away Friday August 17, 2012.
Her father transferred to Salem, Ill., during the oil boom of the 1930’s, and it was there that she graduated from Salem High School and met her future husband Ray E. Christian. After high school, Betty Jean returned to Oklahoma with her husband and was instrumental in starting various oil field companies, many of which are still in business today. After raising her children, Betty Jean began working at Oklahoma Christian University, where she was a valued staff member for 17 years. During that time, she made an impact on the lives of students and co-workers alike. After retirement, she spent her time as a devoted grandmother, where she was always at the core of family events and gatherings.
Betty Jean dedicated her time to helping others. She was a respected member of the community and touched the lives of many throughout her 84 years. Betty Jean led a unique and remarkable life, and will be truly missed.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Osa and Ona Colclasure; sister Iva Barnes and her husband Gene; sister Mary Rector and her husband Gordon; brother I.E. “Bud” Colclasure; her brother James Colclasure and his wife Wilma; her brother Kenneth Colclasure and his wife Gloria; her brother-in-law Shelby Rogers, and her grandson Ryan Christian.
She is survived by her two sons Steven R. Christian, Pottsboro, Texas, and Richard L. Christian, Oklahoma City, Okla.; sister Osa Rogers of Farmington, N.M.; five grandchildren, Mark Christian of Edmond, Spencer Christian of Austin, Texas; Eric Christian, Nicholas Christian, Melissa Jonsson, all of Oklahoma City; and several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
Services for Betty Jean will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel, followed by an entombment at the Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
There will be no visitation, but the family will receive guests following the service.
Services under the direction of Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, Oklahoma City.
