Lorene Elizabeth Craig

EDMOND —     Lorene Elizabeth Craig, 93, was born June 7, 1920, in Emory Texas, the youngest of 11 children to Frank and Minnie Jones. She entered Heaven on January 7, 2014.

She married Henry Craig on August 17, 1940. Lorene and Henry lived in Edmond until 1970, then moved to an acreage just south of Guthrie where they enjoyed gardening and a raising a menagerie of farm animals from horses to peacocks.

Lorene worked in food service from a young age when she began cooking meals for her large family while the older children worked in the fields. Over the years she managed food services for such places as the GM Training Center, Billen’s Café and Delta Zeta Sorority. From the early 1980’s until her retirement in 1993 she and Henry served as house parents at Delta Zeta Sorority in Edmond where they became surrogate parents to hundreds of girls over the years. She also enjoyed many activities with membership in the Mother’s Club, Edmond Round-up Club, Good Sam’s Club and especially enjoyed travel and camping.

Lorene was a member of Seward Road Baptist Church where she loved attending activities with the Recycled Teenagers Ministry. Her love of travel was second only to her love of family and friends.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Bob Duffle of Guthrie, four grandchildren and their spouses, Toby and Kayla Duffle, Jeremy and Kimberly Duffle, Brandye and Jimmy White and Crystal Duffle. She is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren, who were the apple of their “Granny’s” eye.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, January 11, at Baggerley Funeral Home in Edmond. Burial will follow at Seward Cemetery.
