Bill Stearns

EDMOND —     Bill Stearns, 85, of Edmond, Okla., passed away November 29, 2013. He was born September 4, 1928 in Guthrie, Okla., to Clyde and Leona Stearns.

    Bill was chief warrant officer in the National Guard from 1947 to 1968. He was comptroller at Thompson Book and Supply from 1968 to 1995 where upon he was asked to re-activate with National Guard. He was State airlift coordinator and afterwards was appointed liaison to Oklahoma Legislator and U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. He won numerous military awards and after his final retirement, he served four consecutive terms as president of the 45th Infantry Division Association.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Leona Stearns, and his wife of 49 years, Suzanne Stearns.

    Bill  is survived by his daughter Susan Morey and husband Stan, and two grandchildren, Colter and Laing Morey of Edmond.

    Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at  First Christian Church of Guthrie.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church of Guthrie or 45th Infantry Museum.
