William Joseph Dowling

EDMOND —     William “Bill” Joseph Dowling, 88, of Edmond, Okla., passed away peacefully November 29, 2013 in his home in Edmond, Okla. He was born August 23, 1925 in Walnut, Kan. to Michael and Ellen Dowling.

Bill served as a gunner in the US Navy during World War II and was awarded a Victory Medal for his service after being honorably discharged in 1946.  He graduated from Pittsburgh State University in 1951 after which he began a successful career in sales.  In 1965, Bill helped his wife establish her real estate career and continued with his successful career in contractor sales that lasted for over 40 years.

Bill loved to grow tomatoes in his garden, fish, and spend time with his children and grandchildren.  He was known lovingly as “Pappa” and is remembered as a delightful man who was loved by all who knew him.  He endeared himself to family and friends with his interesting and hilarious choice of words and his winks that made you laugh. Bill was a long time parishioner of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his three sisters and four brothers.

Bill was dearly loved by his surviving family: his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, his daughter Patricia J Singleton (Harry) of Oklahoma City, Okla., his son Michael G. Dowling (Kelly) of The Woodlands, Texas, his grandsons Dr. Mark C. Shreve (Sana) of New York, N.Y. and David M. Shreve of Edmond, and his granddaughters Jennifer A. Duran (Matt) of Denver, Colo., Courtney M. Crawford (James) of The Woodlands, and Annie J. Dowling of Houston, Texas and his great granddaughter Hallie J. Duran.
