EDMOND —
Denzel Edward Treece, 80, was born January 12, 1932 in Edmond, Okla. to Clyde and Ella Treece. He died October 16, 2012 at OU Medical Center.
Denzel was a life-long member of the Edmond Church of Christ, attended Edmond schools and was in the last graduating class from Central High School (formerly at Central State College). He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1951, served on the front lines of Korea, and was discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1956 at the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, Nev.
He married the love of his life, Kathy, on May 21, 1954. He was honorably discharged from USMC and began his career as a firefighter at the NAD Hawthorne Fire Department. The family moved to Edmond in 1957 and he was a member of the Edmond Fire Department. The family then moved back to Nevada in 1961 and returned again to Edmond in 1967. Denzel was employed as a firefighter at the Tinker AFB Fire Department and retired as an assistant fire chief in 1982.
Denzel and Kathy spent their retirement years traveling and visiting their children and their families. Denzel enjoyed his morning coffee time with friends at Around the Corner restaurant. He was an avid “do-it-yourselfer” and stayed busy with various projects around the home and acreage. Denzel made a difference in the lives of those he met. He unconditionally loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Denzel was preceded in death by his parents; sister Dolores Cooley; and brother Gordon. He is survived by his wife Kathy; six children: Michael (Rise) of Amarillo, Texas, David (Marci) of Towson, Md., Dean (Kim) and Dale (Tanya) of Edmond, Myra (Russ) Robinson of Littleton, Colo., and Marie (Steve) Whitehead of England; 12 grandchildren: Elise (Matt) Kovar, Cory (Missi), Heather, Zac, Chris, Lexy, Katie Ann, Carlyn, Austin, Taylor, Kendall and Chase; three great-grandchildren: Tristan, Raleigh and Kaydence; sisters, Leatha Steele and Irma Wood-Lee along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will greet guests 6-8 p.m., Sunday October 21, 2012 at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond
Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Monday October 22, 2012 at the Edmond Church of Christ, 9th and Bryant, with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, OKC.
Donations may be made in Denzel’s name to the American Cancer Society, Stand Up2 Cancer, the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.
