Jack Howard Brown

Jack Howard Brown, 97, of Edmond, Okla. passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013 in his bed surrounded by his three sons who loved him well.

He was born July 11, 1916, in Painesville, Ohio, one of six children of a family of coal miners. His mother died when he was young and his aunts stepped in to help raise him and his siblings.

During World War II, Jack served in the 756th Tank Battalion attached to the Third Division under General McArthur. He fought in Europe for four years and became a tank commander.

After the war he met and married his wife Marianna (Ann). Together they had three sons, and with her love and support, they became the close family that is intact to this day.

Jack was a truck driver and saw much of the country that way. Initially an owner-operator, he eventually worked for Lee Way Motor Freight from which he retired.

He enjoyed OU football, golf, gardening and his travels, and made innumerable friendships during his lifetime. But it was his family he truly lived for.  He and Ann brought up and supported their sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always put them first.

Jack is survived by his children, Jack Brown Jr., Mark Brown and wife Terri, and Sam Brown; his four grandchildren, Heather Brown, Kristin Atchley and husband Jonathan, Natalie Cagle and husband Chad, and Lauren Brown; and his six great-grandchildren, Karsten and Abram Atchley, Megan and Ashley Cagle, and Piper and Zoe DuVall.
