Geneva Hudson

EDMOND — Geneva Johnston Hudson, 93, was born October 22, 1920 to James Monroe and Katie Nixon Johnston in Vanita, Okla. and passed from this life November 9, 2013.

Geneva earned BAE and MAE degrees from Central State University and graduate credit hours from Oklahoma University, Oklahoma State University and the University of Colorado. She taught in Edmond Public Schools for 16 years before retiring in 1987.

She was a member of OEA/NEA and served the Edmond Association of Classroom Teachers as president and chief negotiator. She served as president and treasurer of the Oklahoma Council for Social Studies. She served on the board of directors of the Edmond Historical Society.

She was named Oklahoma Social Studies Teacher of the Year in 1985.

She received the Exceptional Service Award for Law-Focus education in 1977 from the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Bar Association, Edmond Mayor’s Appreciation for Volunteer community Service, and National History Day Distinguished Service Award. She is listed in Great Personalities of the South and Who’s Who of American Women. She is the author of OKLAHOMA: The World Around Us, a fourth grade textbook; Barefoot in an Oklahoma Sticker Patch, Shaping Oklahoma, Statesman or Rogue and Search for my Son, a Soldier’s Story.

She was preceded in death by her husband Grant Hudson; son, MSGT Barry Kent Hudson, brothers Lorne Johnston and Tom Johnston.

She is survived by one brother, Charles Johnston and wife Garneta of Duncan, Okla., three sisters, Ann Long and husband Paul of Yukon, Okla., Betty Blalock of Carlsbad, Calif., and Mary Snider of Houston, Texas.
