EDMOND —
Jerry Lynn Adams, 74, of Edmond, Okla., was born September 3, 1937 at home in Highlands, Texas to Howard and Audrey Adams. Jerry spent most of his childhood in the small town of Highlands then on to nearby Baytown where he graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1955. After graduation, he attended Abilene Christian College where he met the love of his life and wife-to- be, Carol Cooper.
Jerry was very popular in school. His good looks and talents brought him much praise and attention. Jerry loved baseball and played wherever and whenever he could. He was on the baseball team in high school and played the alto saxophone in the high school marching band. He was fondly known to his friends as “Goose”.
He started singing at an early age and led singing at church when urged to do so. While in Abilene, he sang in a small band and performed when the opportunities were presented. The band once performed at the Brunson Theater in Baytown, which was a thrill for both him and his former high school classmates.
Jerry started his career in Tulsa as a DJ for one of the radio stations there. He then moved on to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he began his news anchor career. He later moved to Oklahoma City where he was a lead anchor for all three network affiliates. Jerry was loved by all his viewers, who often thought of him as family.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Audrey Adams, father and mother-in-law, Harold and Iris Cooper, and son-in-law, Shawn Harrell.
He is survived by his loving sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Allen Alford, of Willis, Texas; daughter, Lisa Adams of Edmond, Okla.; daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Kyle Hammond of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Connor Mason, Brookelyn Mason, Madelyn Hammond and Blake Hammond; sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and Denney Benson; brother-in-law, Gary Cooper, as well as many loved nieces, nephews and countless friends.
