EDMOND —
Evelyn Marie (Biggs) Smedley, 87, passed from this earth to her heavenly home on January 12, 2013. She was born on April 2, 1925 in Guthrie, Okla. to Carl and Irene Biggs.
Evelyn grew up in the Guthrie area and married Barney Max Smedley on May 20, 1941. Together they started a family and made a living farming for many years. She later worked at Oklahoma Furniture Factory for a time. After working at Oklahoma Furniture Factory, she did babysitting. Upon retirement, she enjoyed making quilts, traveling with her husband, working in her garden, attending one of her club meetings, or just visiting with her neighbors. Marie made so many quilts that each family member has a quilt to remember her by.
Marie was known for her hard work and her love of her family. Family was very important to Marie and she loved being surrounded by her family. She could often be found in her kitchen cooking one of her many delicious meals or desserts. She also held weekly family dinners for many years and big holiday dinners at her home. Everyone that stepped foot in her home felt welcome. She had a kind heart and was loved by everyone.
She is survived by her daughter Nadine Brawner and husband Bill of Edmond, Okla.; son Raymond Smedley and wife Kathleen of Guthrie; and son Melvin Smedley and wife Deborah (Debbie) of Guthrie; brothers Lloyd Biggs and Charlie Biggs; sisters JeAnn Widener, Edna Leonard, and Lela Chandler; grandchildren, Brian, Earl, Justin, Darren, Jared, and Jason Smedley; and Kevin, Phillip, and Michael Brawner, and Cindy Waits; many great-grandkids and great-great-grandkids. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
Visitation will be noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, January 17, 2013.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013 at Smith Memorial Chapel with Chaplain Gene Owen of Companion Hospice officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery, Guthrie.
