EDMOND —
Margaret Cross, age 87, of Shreveport, La., passed away January 23, 2013 at Bradford Village in Edmond, Okla. She was born May 27, 1925 in Stanley, La. to the late Milton Van Austin and the late Annie Christian Austin. She was one of nine brothers and sisters.
In 1945, she married Jack Malone, her husband of 41 years, and they had two sons; Jack Randolph Malone and Joe Austin Malone. In 1988, she married Onnie B. Cross, her husband of 24 years.
Margaret lived most of her life in Shreveport, La. She enjoyed a long career at First National Bank (Bank One), in Shreveport, and retired in 1975. Margaret was also an active member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for many years and was involved in many women’s groups there. Her many interests included Bible study, volunteer work at her church, playing bridge and shanghai, as well as doing needlework, traveling, and entertaining.
Margaret was a loving, devoted, and generous wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter.
She was a selfless caregiver to her parents, her husband, Jack, and her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death.
Margaret is survived by her son Jack Randolph Malone and wife Maria, of Edmond, and grandsons Austin Joseph Malone, Jay Randolph Malone and Jack Christian Malone of Oklahoma City, Okla.; stepchildren Jeanne Boutwell and husband Kenneth; and Rhonda Lewis of Shreveport; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Jack Malone; son Joe Austin Malone; husband Onnie B. Cross; parents Annie Christian Austin and Milton Van Austin; brothers Harmon Austin, Van Austin Jr., Charles Austin; and sisters Lesta Wofford, Connie Rucker, Laverne Roberts, Gene Skinner, and Virginia Starks.
The Malone Family extends their deepest appreciation to all of the caregivers who provided comfort to Margaret toward the end of her life, especially the staff at Crossroads Hospice and Bradford Village Nursing Home.
Interment will be at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, La. at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadmoor Baptist Church, Shreveport or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
