EDMOND —
David Lynn Simmons, 65, of Claremore, Okla., left his earthly home for his eternal, heavenly home on Friday, November 23, 2012. He was born September 18, 1947 in Hooker, Okla. to Benjamin and Mary (Bradley) Simmons.
David grew up and received his education in Edmond. He earned a Bachelors degree from Central State College, now UCO and served in the U.S. Navy. David married Sarah Dugger on February 17, 1973 and Sarah’s daughter Jennifer became part of his life. Their son Joshua was born in 1974.
David loved hunting, fishing, training dogs and golf but he would be the first to declare that the extra special events and biggest blessings in his life were his faith, family and his friends. In 1973 he confessed his faith and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and thereafter praised God and rejoiced in the knowledge that he was His beloved son. He also considered the refining process he struggled through with health and cancer issues since 1997 as a blessing, opening his eyes to the truly important things in life; one of which was knowing that his family and many friends were Christians and that he would see them again. Other blessings included watching his son and daughter parent their children and instill God’s word in their hearts. David entered his eternal glory confident that his faith made him whole.
He is survived by his wife Sarah of their home; his children, Jennifer Janssen of Claremore and Joshua Simmons and wife Stephanie of Broken Arrow; grandchildren Caleb Simmons, Quentin Simmons, Andrew Janssen and Tyler Simmons; his brother Darryl Simmons and wife Barbara of Coweta; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of David’s life will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at Harbor Church, Oologah, Okla. David will be laid to rest at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery under the direction of Rice Funeral Service.
Memorial contributions in David’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4110 S. 100th East Ave., Tulsa, OK 74146, or St. Jude, P.O. Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
