Orville Dean Manderscheid

EDMOND —     Orville Dean Manderscheid, 84, of Edmond, Okla., was born July 20, 1929, in Canton, Okla., to parents Viola (Siefried) and Arthur Manderscheid and passed away at home, December 13, 2013.   

    He eloped with his high school sweetheart, best friend and love of his life, Wanda Jean Richardson, to Chicago, Ill. on May 17, 1950.

    Dean attended OU and Tulsa University.  He was a chemist with Dowell from 1955 until he retired in 1984. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Edmond Masonic Lodge #37.  He was a member of Santa Fe Presbyterian Church, the Mineral and Gem Society, became a Master Gardener with OSU Extension in 1981, Oklahoma County Triad and many others.  After retiring, he volunteered whenever he wasn’t gardening or rockhounding.

    Dean had a wry sense of humor, loved to eat lunch at Earl’s Rib every day, and loved Twix candy bars.

    Dean was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Louise McCloskey.

    He is survived by his wife, Wanda; both of his daughters, Melba and husband Greg Prior and Gayl Canfield; and former son-in-law, Steven Canfield.

    Viewing will be 1 - 8 p.m., Wednesday December 18, at Memorial Park Funeral Home 13313 N Kelley Ave; Oklahoma City, OK.

    Services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, December 19, at Memorial Park Historic Cemetery Chapel 13400 N Kelley Ave; Oklahoma City, OK, with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.

    The family thanks Rick Ham with Caregiver Connection and Faith Hospice for their great care.
