The Edmond Sun
Donna Jean Swartzbaugh, 74, of Guthrie, Okla., passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 in Guthrie. She was born July 12, 1938 in Chicago, Ill., to Alexander and Kathryn (Bina) Millar, III.
Donna was a child of the depression; in 1948, her family set out to California to make a better life. A car wreck at Bradbury Corner in Edmond changed those plans.
Donna graduated Edmond Memorial High School in 1957 and St. Anthony School of Nursing in 1960. She married Kendal Swartzbaugh in 1962; from this union in 1964, she had twin sons, Mark and Todd.
Donna loved being a mother (her house was always full of children) and a nurse. She worked in all facets of nursing, including St. Anthony’s floor, the old Logan ER, doctor’s office, and was Edmond’s first school nurse. She found her passion in geriatric nursing and spent the last 30 years of her career there. She was instrumental in bringing hospice to Oklahoma. She finally retired from nursing after 50 years to enjoy her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one sibling Alex.
Donna is survived by her sons Mark Swartzbaugh and wife Jamie and Todd Swartzbaugh and wife Teresa all of Guthrie; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Sean, Jessica, Taylar, Mollie, and Hunter; and two great-grandchildren Scout and Tatum.
A funeral service for Donna will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at First Christian Church, Guthrie. Interment will follow at Gracelawn Cemetery, Edmond, Okla., under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie.
