EDMOND —
Gene Wesley Neill, 75, of Edmond, Okla., was born July 28, 1937 to Frank and Delma Neill of Sayre, Okla. He was the oldest of four children, a sister Shirley Pope of Tuscan, Ariz. and two brothers Roy Neill and Gerald Neill, both of Lone Grove, Okla.
In his early years, he attended school at New Liberty in Sweetwater, Okla. He married his high school sweetheart Merel Reed on November 4, 1955, and they resided in Del City and later in Oklahoma City, Ardmore, Sulphur, Enid, and Edmond.
Gene worked for Associated Milk Producers for many years while Merel worked for Oklahoma Christian University where their children received their education.
Gene and Merel’s children Randy Neill of Andover, Kan., Mark Neill of Irving, Texas, Gayla Lindsay of Muskogee, Okla., and their spouses, gave them eight grandchildren; Larson, Whitney, Elyse, Justin, Julie, Morgan, Miranda, Mallory, and one great grandson, Evan.
Gene’s hobby was playing the guitar, working with farm tractors, and hauling hay. His greatest passion was working for the Lord in the Church of Christ, and sharing in the lives of many friends and work associates. His greatest thrill was knowing the mercy of Jesus Christ and hearing of people’s response to the same. From age 15, everyone knew of Merel and Gene as a couple. They tried to look at life through the scope of Jesus Christ and his Word, where there is a promise, by faith, of a life unending with total peace. They lived to teach others about this same promise.
A formal visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2012 at Matthews Funeral Home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday August 6, 2012 at Memorial Road Church of Christ. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Lone Oak Cemetery, Sayre, Okla.
