EDMOND —
James Dale Hampton, 87, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Monday July 9, 2012. He was born November 27, 1924, to Oscar Hamilton Hampton and Rosa Ethel (Dowda) Hampton in Ashdown, Ark.
Dale was an active student, band member and salutatorian at Ashdown High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma A & M College in 1947 and shortly after graduation began his career with Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company as a sales consultant.. He served in various capacities during his lengthy career with OG&E, including lighting engineer, division sales supervisor, commercial sales manager and senior special projects consultant. Dale was involved in many engineering organizations and technical societies and was a past president of the Engineering Club of Oklahoma City. Dale also served on a code panel for three different editions of the National Electrical Code. He was a long time resident of Oklahoma City, loved to travel and see new places, and was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews. Dale was a long time member of First Christian Church of Edmond.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dale is survived by his sister, Dorothy Hammond and her husband John of Edmond; niece Rebecca Ferguson and husband Rod of Oklahoma City; and nephew Mark Hammond and wife Rose of Edmond; three great nephews, Christian Hammond, Matthew and Sean Ferguson, and two great nieces, Aubrey and Sydney Hammond. Dale leaves behind many friends.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2012, at First Christian Church of Edmond., under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Edmond Breakfast on Boulevard Ministry or the Church Building Fund.
