EDMOND —
Jewell Winn Pool passed away Monday, January 23, 2012 in Edmond, Okla. with her family by her side.
Jewell was a jewel who lived a long and rich life and was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. A true pioneer woman with an independent spirit, Jewell was born in March 17, 1913 Weleetka, Okla., the 12th of 13 children. As a twin, the bond with her sister, Jessie, was inseparable. Her father William Jonas Winn, an Oklahoma Territory Sheriff, and her mother, Lillie Etta, were one of the first to settle Hockley County in 1928.
Jewell attended college in Lubbock, Texas and went on to work for 30 years in the Farmers Home Administration. She married her sweetheart, Harvie Day Pool, on August 14, 1936. Jewell and Harvie lived in Levelland, Texas where they raised their four children. They worshiped at the First Baptist Church and Jewell was a charter member of Maids and Matrons. She will be remembered for her wonderful spirit, generosity, yeast rolls, and wild plum jam. She kept a vegetable garden, enjoyed quilting, crocheting, knitting and sewing, plus she loved to work crossword puzzles. Jewell also loved to travel and visited more than half of the United States as well as Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain and Mexico.
Jewell was preceded in death by her parents; son, Lowell (Deanna); Harvie, husband of 66 years; and all of her siblings.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Rutledge (Ray) of Edmond; Jan Pool (Jay Stecher) of Berkeley, Calif. and Jessica Latimer (John) of Corpus Christie, Texas. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Dee Laine, Deanene, Julee, Lori, Kari (Michael), Justine (Gray), Christopher, and Katherine (Pablo), and 10 great-grandchildren.
To celebrate her rich life and honor Jewell, the family will be wearing her favorite color, red. Viewing will be from noon til 6 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Crawford Family Funeral Home, 610 NW 178th Edmond.
In Levelland a viewing will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, January 27 prior to the services at 2 p.m. at the George Price Funeral Home.
