EDMOND — Robert Alan Young, 61, formerly of Edmond, Okla., passed away calmly on Monday, March 18, 2013, in his home in Kingwood, Texas. Cancer took his life. Bob was born February 12, 1952 in Louisville, Ky. He graduated from Jeffersontown High School in 1970 in the first class of the “new” high school. He played football, basketball, and ran track, and attended Brevard College on a track scholarship. He later transferred from Brevard to the University of Kentucky where he graduated in 1974 with a degree in engineering.
He married his high school sweetheart, Gaye Moser, in 1973.
Over the years, Bob worked as an engineer for Shell Oil Company, Apache Oil Company, and the US Treasury Department. Bob was that rare type of engineer who also had excellent people skills. He felt there was always a reasonable, fair solution to any problem if you just worked at it long enough. He had a passion for travel, having taken many trips to Europe over the years. He loved good wine, golf, Kentucky basketball, and spending time with friends and family.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Lucille Young, of Louisville, KY.
He is survived by his wife, Gaye Young, of the home; daughter and son, Kathy Young and Wesley Young, both of Norman, Okla., father-in-law, Keith Moser; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathy and Brad Thomas; sister Patricia Nesbitt; brother-in-law Frank Nesbitt; nephew and wife, Evan and Jessica Taylor; niece and husband Kasey and Dre Davis; grand-nephew Kingson Davis; niece Lauren Nesbitt; nephew Kyle Nesbitt; nephew Bradley Thomas, and nephew Troy Thomas.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be 3-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 in the Fellowship Hall at First Presbyterian Church, Edmond, Okla.
