EDMOND —
Bonnie Cecilia Hengel, 71, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at home with her family at her side after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born February 28, 1941, in the Phillipines, and was the daughter of Charles and Mary McVey. After graduating from high school, Bonnie met and married the love of her life, Warren J. Hengel, on August 8, 1959, at Mountain Home AFB, Elmore, Idaho. Together they raised their family as Warren served in the USAF as a B52 Pilot. Bonnie worked hard to keep their family close, tirelessly preserving her husband Warren’s role in the family while he spent more than a year serving his country in Vietnam. Upon Lieutenant Colonel Warren Hengel’s retirement from the Air Force, Bonnie and Warren focused their time and efforts upon their children, grandchildren, and their Catholic faith.
Bonnie was dedicated to being a wife and mother, with her husband and family being her greatest priority. She was a woman of faith and courage, living as a gifted homemaker and hostess. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes. She was also a talented artist, creating treasured ceramic gifts and beautiful paintings for her loved ones.
Bonnie is survived by three of her children; Warren Hengel of Fresno, Calif., Cindy (Dennis) Case of Edmond, Renee (Dale) Schuman of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and seven grandchildren: Derek, Sarah, Nicholas, Luke, Joseph, Dennis, and Jennifer.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren of 51 years, and her daughter Kim at infancy.
A Rosary was 7 p.m. Friday, July 6, 2012 at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church Daily Mass Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Services entrusted to Baggerley Funeral Home of Edmond.
