EDMOND —     Laura Melinda Ray, 60, of Edmond, Okla., passed away suddenly Monday, April 21, 2014 at Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Oklahoma City after a brief but intense battle with cancer.

She will be missed by her daughter Elizabeth L. Ray of Edmond; step-mother Audrey Prouty of College Station, Texas; twin brother Richard W. Prouty Jr. and his wife Mary Jo of Lorton, Va. and their sons, Richard Prouty (III) and family of Senoia, Ga., and Sean Prouty and family of Grovetown, Ga.; sister Brenda C. Nagode and her husband Ty of Troy, Mont. and their daughters Allison Mischenko and family of Libby, Mont. and Claire Fox and husband of Belgrade, Mont., brother Joel J. Prouty and his wife Roma of Elkton, Md. and her family of England, UK; sister Sonya E. Humes and her husband Tom and daughters Peggy and Anna of Edmond, and her dear friend Paul Kessler of Edmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard (Dick) and Peggy Prouty.

After high school, Melinda, followed her passion for helping people and joined the Army where she served for three years as an operating room specialist at Fort Sam Houston, Texas and Fort Bragg, N.C. When she left the Army, she continued a life-long journey in providing care and comfort to those in need at varying levels of the civilian health care system.  She had an extraordinary recall of the minutest details of the lives and adventures of the people in her life which were always entertaining but never ceased to amuse us when she couldn’t remember where she left her eye glasses (which were often on the top of her head). She was a professional soldier, compassionate health care provider, loving mother, wonderful sister and friend.  We will miss her dearly.

A small private graveside ceremony will be held on May 9, 2014.

In lieu of flowers, family and friends are asked to consider a memorial contribution to the Jesus House of Oklahoma City at
