EDMOND —
Vernon L. Lamb, 89, died peacefully at Sterling House in Edmond, Okla. February 10, 2012. Vernon was born in Augusta, Ga. September 23, 1922, to V.J. and Hannah Lamb.
After high school, Vernon joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific during World War II, and as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve, in South Dakota during the Korean Conflict, working as a mechanic on B-17, B-24, and B-52 aircrafts.
After WWII, he moved to Midwest City and spent 32 years working as a civilian employee of the U.S. Air Force at Tinker Air Force Base.
Vernon was a loving, kind, and caring husband, and the world’s greatest father and grandfather. Known for his incredible patience, easy-going style, quick wit, sense of humor, and love of family, he took great delight in raising his two daughters and his two granddaughters, driving them and their friends to endless school events and parties, and ultimately teaching them to drive! Once his older granddaughter began to talk, he quickly became known as Papa to everyone and was always available to fix anything and even to have his hair combed or nails polished.
He was preceded in death by Winifred Lamb, his beloved wife of 65 years.
He is survived by his daughter Laverne (Francisco) Rios of Denver, Colo., daughter Pattye (Mark) Moore of Edmond, granddaughter Melissa (Brandon) Thompson and great-grandsons Aidan and Henry Thompson of Winston Salem, N. C., and granddaughter Lindsey Moore of Norman, Okla.
The family will hold a graveside service 3 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Arlington Memory Gardens in Midwest City, Okla.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Full Life Hospice, 4001 N. Classen Blvd., Suite 205, OKC, OK 73118.
