Ina Colgin

EDMOND —     Ina Colgin, longtime Guymon resident and current Edmond resident, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Copper Lake Estates in Edmond, Okla.

    She was born January 31, 1917 in Hurley, Mo., the daughter of Martha (Williams) and Archibald McAffee (Mack) Laney. The Laney family moved to Guymon, Okla., where Ina attended Guymon schools and met young Harold E. Colgin. Ina and Harold were married May 16, 1936 in Hooker, Okla.

    Ina was a devoted helpmate to Harold during the many years he ran Ideal Grocery Store and Ideal Real Estate. A loving and nurturing mother, Ina was active in her daughter, RaSonya, and son, Sonny’s lives, volunteering with Girl and Boy Scouts, Rainbow Girls and DeMolay, school and church activities. As a longtime member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, she volunteered and enjoyed U.M.W. In the community, Ina was a part of the Order of Eastern Star, Rose Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a Lioness. Ina and Harold enjoyed many years of retirement, travelling in the U.S. and abroad.

    Harold passed away in 1997 and Ina soon moved to Edmond to be closer to her daughter, RaSonya and her family. In Edmond, she made many friends and enjoyed activities at Copper Lake Estates.

    In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold E. (Sonny) Colgin, Jr., who passed away in 1956; four brothers, Jesse Laney, Reed Laney, Burrill Laney, and Mack Laney, Jr.; and two sisters, Lela Mitchell and Eula Taylor.

    Her family includes daughter, RaSonya and husband, Ron Pruitt of Edmond; three grandchildren, Chad Pruitt and wife, Amy, of Sausalito, Calif., Lance Pruitt and wife, Jennifer, of Enid, Okla.; Heath Pruitt of Sausalito; three great-grandchildren, Josie and Gavin Pruitt, and Hunter Dallas.

    Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday June 11, at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, 521 North Roosevelt, Guymon, with family friend, Jim Jamieson, and Rev. Gary Holdeman, officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.

    Memorials may be given in lieu of floral gifts to Loaves and Fishes Food Cupboard, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
