Eldren A. Jennings

EDMOND —     Eldren A. Jennings, otherwise known as “Ed,” passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014. He was 86 years old. He passed peacefully of natural causes at his residence at Autumn Leaves of Edmond.

    Ed was born January 18, 1928 on a farm in Logan County, Okla., to B.A. and Ethel Jennings. He grew up on the farm with his parents and brother, Wayne Jennings. He attended a one room school house until 8th grade and then went to Deer Creek High School. After moving into Edmond he graduated from Edmond High School in 1945.

    He married Rosemary Irene Lindley on February 3, 1956 in Enid, Okla. They spent the first years of their marriage in Fairview, Okla., where he managed the lumber yard. They then moved to Edmond where he managed Long Bell Lumber yard for several years.

    During this time in Edmond they adopted two children, Edward Mack and Janet Susan, and gave birth to a son Jeffrey Lindley. Ed was transferred to Nashville, Tenn. to manage the regional lumber warehouse of International Paper Company where he worked until he retired.

    He was an active member of the Disciples of Christ Church. He had the same pew he sat in every Sunday at First Christian Church Edmond and then he became a charter member of Southern Hills Christian Church. He served many years as a deacon and participated in many committees at the church.

Ed’s life was about his family. His hobby was his work. He devoted his life to providing for his family and others. He gave to many charitable organizations and never turned anyone down that needed help. He was a pillar of the Edmond community throughout the years.

    He is survived by his daughter, Janet Helms and her husband Neil; his son Jeffrey Jennings; his granddaughters, Tara Baker and soon-to-be son in law Jeff Monroe, Lauren Wheeler and her husband Taylor, and granddaughter Haley Helms; great grandchildren Blake and Alaina Morton, Cassidy Thornton, and Owen Wheeler; his brother Wayne Jennings and his nephews: David, Philip, Steve and Brian Jennings.

    He was preceded in death by his wife Rosemary Jennings, his son Edward Mack Jennings and his parents B.A. and Ethel Jennings.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at First Christian Church Edmond, 201 East Second Street, Edmond, OK. Graveside will follow at Seward Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Edmond, OK.
