Jon Michael Arrasmith


EDMOND —     Jon Michael Arrasmith, 33, of Shawnee, Okla. passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014. He was born in Giddings, Texas, on August 7, 1980 to John Arrasmith and Joni McMahan-Kidney.

    Jon graduated from Choctaw High School in 1998, and attended Seminole State College where he played collegiate tennis for two years and received his Associate degree in Criminal Justice. Jon furthered his education at East Central University where he was an active member of Phi Kappa Tau and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice.

    During and after college, Jon worked for the State of Oklahoma as an auditor and inspector. In early 2009, Jon took a position with, his tribe, Citizen Potawatomi Nation (CPN) as an internal auditor for the Gaming Commission. In January 2013 Jon became executive director for the Gaming Commission. Jon was extremely dedicated and passionate about working for CPN.

    Jon met his wife, Melanie, at East Central University where they began a friendship through the Greek community and were married on November 23, 2012.

    Jon was passionate about everything and everyone he encountered in life. His love for music, his tribe, his profession and sports, especially the Indianapolis Colts, was present in everything he did. His friends and family were the light of his life.

    Jon is survived by his wife, Melanie Morgan Arrasmith of Shawnee; mother and stepfather Joni and Rocky Kidney, of Pink, Okla.; stepmother and father Karen and John Arrasmith; sister Annah all of Livingston, Mont.; five uncles, one aunt, many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and Phi Kappa Tau brothers.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 at CPN Heritage Center in Shawnee. At Jon’s request please wear your favorite team jersey or sports apparel or bright color to celebrate his life. Please bring a pot luck to join us in a traditional Potawatomi feast after the services.
