EDMOND —
Thelma Lee Mathis Hearn McCurdy Stoner, “MaMac”, 85, went to be with the Lord July 24, 2012. She was born May 20, 1927 in Rocky, Okla., to Claude L. and Inez D. (Sipes) Mathis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Doris Cunningham and Evelyn Brooks Garrett; and by previous husbands, William Don Hearn and Ellis (Mac) McCurdy.
She is survived by husband, Elmer Lloyd Stoner; daughters, Donene Bengtson of Edmond, Louann French Millard and Don of Choctaw; sons, Mike Hearn and Nancy of Bristow and Gary Hearn of Edmond. She leaves behind seven grandchildren, Melinda Chada and Evan, Ryan Bengtson, Jeny Roberts and Neil, Rachelle Metheny and Beau, Chris Hearn, all from Edmond, Austin Hearn and Erin of Pawnee and Evan Hearn and Natalie of Colorado; step-children, Ellis McCurdy and Linda of Guymon, Kay Smith and Bill of LaPorte, Texas, Barbara Canter of Davenport, Christina Stoner of Oklahoma City, and Eileen Stoner of Tecumseh, and nine step-grandchildren: Dale McCurdy, and Michele in Texas, Chad McCurdy and Denise of Wash., Michelle Trimble of Guymon, Misty Stover and Doug of Calif., Michael Trimble and Rachelle of Guymon, Corey Smith and Jennifer of Maryland; James Canter and LeeAnn of Texas, and Shay and Trey Stoner of Oklahoma City; 20 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
For more than 30 years, she touched the hearts and lives of hundreds of kindergarten students from Living Word Academy, now known as Oklahoma Christian Academy. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She enjoyed teaching Bible classes, going on mission trips, doing home Bible studies and leading others of Christ. She was also very successful in an aloe vera based cosmetic company called Lady Love / Tarrah.
A formal visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Matthews Funeral Home.
Services to celebrate her life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at the Edmond Church of Christ, at 9th and Bryant. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oklahoma Christian Academy, In SEARCH of the Lord’s Way or Oklahoma Christian University Mathis Scholarship Fund.
