The Edmond Sun

EDMOND —     Joseph Grant Harmon, 23, a student, outdoorsman, and devoted friend, passed away while vacationing with his brother in Thailand, on February 8, 2013.

Joseph was born April 21, 1989 in Edmond, Okla., to DeDe and Ron Harmon.  He graduated from Edmond Public Schools and was currently attending Colorado State University, where he was majoring in construction management.  Joseph was a member of the CSU varsity Shotgun Sports team.  He adored his teammates and competing in tournaments.

Joseph loved music, the mountains, and was an avid sportsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing, and snow boarding.  His contagious laugh and boisterous spirit earned him a wide circle of friends whom he loved deeply and spoke of often. Always at his side on every adventure was his trusted chocolate Lab, Carlos. Joseph lived life to the fullest every day. He was strong-willed, loyal, and had a profound love of freedom. He was a deeply passionate person, who cherished his friendships immensely.  Joseph was a persuasive communicator, having the ability to make you feel his words, and was not hesitant to entertain even a room full of strangers.

Joseph was preceded in death by his grandfather, W.C. Derryberry of McAlester; his grandmother Mary Alma Harmon of McAlester; his uncle Charles Harmon of Edmond and his uncle Roger Harmon of Colorado Springs.

Joseph was part of a very loving family who thanks God for Joseph’s life and will miss him every day: his parents Ron and DeDe Harmon; older brother Tyler Harmon; his grandmother, Willie Dell Derryberry of McAlester; his aunt and uncle Donna and Reid Slaughter and his cousins Story and Yale Slaughter of Dallas. Joseph is also survived by his aunt and uncle Phyllis and Carl Breuning of Calhan, Colo.; his uncle and aunt Curtis and Lou Ann Harmon of Denton, Texas; his aunt Robina Harmon of Edmond and cousin Kevin Harmon of McAlester; his uncle and aunt Johnny Lee and Linda Harmon of Krebs; his uncle and aunt Bob and Pam Harmon of McAlester; his aunt Shana Harmon of Perkins, and a host of extended family and many dear friends.

A come-and-go reception and visitation will be 6-8pm on Thursday, February 21, 2013 at Crawford Family Funeral Service followed by a private family burial.
