Mae Nell Claunch, 83, of Edmond, Okla., died quietly at home Sunday, May 5, 2013. She was born at home in Tillman County, Okla. to Luther Ben and Zephr Mae Loftis.
Nell married her husband of 65 years, Maurice Claunch, in 1948. When her son was in high school, Nell continued her education and earned her degree at Northeastern State Teacher’s College in Tahlequah, Okla.
She and her husband have been long time residents of Edmond since 1968. Nell taught business administration at Jones High School from 1968 to her retirement in 1994.
Nell is survived by her husband, Maurice Claunch; her son Gary Claunch; her daughter-in-law, Carol Claunch; three grandchildren, Julia Demery, Erin Pettyjohn and Courtney Claunch,
three great-grandchildren, Wayne Oliver, James Oliver and Caelyn Pettyjohn; her two sisters, Barbara Rogers and Dortheia Howel, and her brother-in-law, Charles Claunch.
She was preceded in death by her brother, L.B. Loftis.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 at the Memorial Road Church of Christ. Interment will be 3:30 p.m. Friday at Frederick Memorial Cemetery, Frederick, Okla., under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Edmond.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
