Melvin J. Eldredge

EDMOND — Melvin J. Eldredge, 71, long-time resident of Edmond, Okla., left this earth to join his Heavenly Father on March 27, 2013. He was born May 23, 1941 in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Melvin D. and Ethel Hudman Eldredge.  His family lived in Edmond before moving to Shawnee, OK. They returned to the Deer Creek area for his dad’s work. His father was killed in a farming accident in 1957. The family, subsequently, moved to Edmond. He met his wife, Shirley Glenn, and they were married October 10, 1963. After a few years in Stratford, Texas, and Albuquerque, N.M., returned to Edmond to be near their families. Melvin was employed by TG&Y Warehouse and Mustang Fuel Corporation, and later went to work for the City of Edmond, from where he retired in 2001.

He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin D Eldredge; his mother, Ethel Eldredge Glenn; his step-father James Rolliegh Glenn; and a step-brother, James Roy Glenn.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, of the home; his daughters, Donna Coleman and her husband Derek of Moore, Okla., and Julie Eldredge of Yukon, Okla.; four grandsons, Preston and Camden Coleman and Peyton and Hudson Taylor; sister, Melva Darlene Morgan and husband Danny of Edmond; his brother Bill Eldredge and wife Deedra of Seminole, Okla.; step-sister, Martha Sue Osmon and husband Rich of Edmond, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family thanks Dr. Chris Martin and his staff for their care and concern all these years. The family also extends gratitude to Autumn Bridge Hospice for their heartfelt care, and a special thank you to to the Edmond Fire Department Station #3 for all their kind assistance during the last two years.

A memorial service for Melvin will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 1, at the Edmond Church of God. Arrangements by Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond.
